Davao Patent Office
Found it interesting that a patent office opened up in Davao City. Well satellite office really, since all Intellectual property filings will still be processed and approved in Manila.
Despite that, its nice to know that there is a place in Mindanao where people can easily file their patent designs and register their copyrights and trademarks without ever having to go to Manila.
I heard that there is a very active inventor’s community in Davao. So this will benefit them mostly. Of course it’s another thing where they can get funding for their projects.
I once met a young Norwegian, I think he was in his early 20’s, in Japan working in the same company I was in. He was a consultant and made his mark in the electronics industry. Too bad I forgot his name already, but he was a genius. One of his skills was designing CPU’s for satellites and our company just brought him in to work on one of their projects.
Remarkable that at such a young age the guy already has accomplished a lot. Anyway, it did come with a price. He said that he spent most of his formative years in the library studying.
Anyway, one thing he taught me was the entire patent industry. And how he makes money over some of his inventions and design ideas by just filing for a patent. Then some companies who are planning to build the same thing, seeing that he has already filed a patent for it either offer to buy the patent from him or license it for the rights to use it.
